So Post.news is shutting down huh?

Should’ve added some to it.

Micro transactions for certain feature articles are ok but not the ehole shebang. And in 2024, I refuse to deal with anything that isn’t potentially using ActivityPub or can otherwise be federated and followed by my main accounts.

  1. Did @evan or @darnell try Post.news? Curious to see if my opinions are shared here.

    1. @starrwulfe @evan Yep. #PostNews had potential, & I believe that if they would have allowed custom domains for a fee & activated #ActivityPub, they would have been as successful as #MicroBlog.

Throw in #Tumblr importing & it would have thrived.

  2. Should’ve added some #fediverse to it.

  3. Perhaps not, it’s wait and see. Noel asked for a response to whether or not people would be willing to pay for a subscription.

  4. I personally wouldn’t want to subscribe unless there are clear guidelines as to what’s being paywalled specifically. I cannot stress enough that siloing general information behind paywalls in these times is very unsustainable. What exactly is the premium being offered vs their competition?

    1. Post was my first Twitter alternative. Admittedly a lot of us are sentimental. However there is a real numbers side to the site. Other than my pinned tweet my average views on Twitter equals about 50. Post averages around 200, with 1.6k being the best I’ve had, with way fewer followers.

  5. Are these artificial views being posted by “crawlers”? And even if not— are they uniques? Are there any referral data to point back to where they came from to see how your content surfaced? Are those tools available in Post News’s kit?
No point in using a social network if it’s an echo chamber

  6. Thank you. Right now I’m staring writer’s block in the face on my Substack. I did take a quick glance at brid.gy and bridgy fed.

  7. I find being able to write with the aim of fostering a discussion around the topic helps a lot. No longer am I “yelling at clouds,” but am actually eliciting responses and thought. Also this method tends to make for an infinite well of tangental ideas as well.
